s@fer-website is a service provided by TÜV SÜD for websites, which prioritise trustworthiness, quality, and safety – in terms of usability and user information as well as with regard to the way in which personal data is being handled.
These are websites which, for example, allow the user to input and save personal data or to create and save a profile or a configuration.
The possibilities of using the internet for business or for personal matters are manifold, but usually require that users' personal data and other sensitive data are collected, saved and used by the owner of the respective website. Therefore, concerns on the part of many users are proportional to the possibilities afforded by such websites: Does my data arrive at the correct destination? For what is my data being used? Will my data be forwarded to a third party?
The s@fer-website certification addresses such concerns - in addition to the aspects usability and user information - and encompasses the following assessments, which are repeated anually:
1. Online assessment
Detailed analysis of the certificed website with regard to page set-up, navigation concept, customer information and application.
2. Security-Check
Inspection of the security status using a port scanner, security scanner and other specialised tools and scripts.
3. On-site audit
The following areas are tested during an on-site audit: organisational framework, data security, data protection and the processes "behind the scenes".
